課程概述

The course discusses the economic analysis of leisure consumption decisions and the economic issues in the leisure industry. In the semester, we will first apply the concepts and tools of microeconomics to analyze how a consumer make time allocation decision on the choice among leisure, consumption, school and work, and how a leisure business manages its supply, demand, investment, and market interactions. In the second part of the course, we will cover the macroeconomic issues of leisure, including the impacts of leisure industry on nation’s production, income, employment, economic development and international finance and trade.

Through case studies and examples, it is expected for students to gain extensive understanding on the economic issues in Taiwan’s and global leisure markets, and to learn how to apply economics to the operations and management in the leisure industry. The course shall also provide a great foundation for students to advance in their future study and career development related to the leisure business. 

課程目標
The course will discuss the following topics: 1) the economic issues in the leisure industry, 2) the influence of international leisure industry, 3) the analysis of the production, consumption, market equilibrium and invest risk of leisure industry using the concepts and tools of microeconomics, 4) the macroeconomic impacts of leisure industry on gross national production, economics development, employment and balance of international account, 5) the applications of economics in the leisure industry by case study, 6) connecting the theory and practice by recognize the related developing issue of Taiwan’s and global leisure markets. 
課程要求
The course will have one final exam (30%) at the end of semester to evaluate your understanding of course materials. The exam will contain several essay questions. Sample questions will be provided for your practice before the exam.
The major part of evaluation for this course (60%) is on homework and project assignments that may require an in-class presentation and/or a written report.

The assignments will be given at least two weeks in advance. In most assignments you will need to collect data or information to prepare for your presentation or to write your report.

Although your attendance will not be recorded, 10% of your grade will be assigned for your class participation by evaluating the frequency and quality of your contributions in classroom discussions, as well as how effectively you each respond to others’ comments.
